Hong Kong nationals survive two rounds

29th April, Cairo: National bowlers, Rickle Kam, Joshua Chow and Mike Chan survived two rounds to advance to Step 3 Final of the 17th Sinai International Open Bowling Tournament on Wednesday.

Chow was the best finisher in this morning's Step 1 Final when he finished sixth with Rickle Kam in eighth and Mike Chan in ninth. American PBA pro, Brad Angelo won the stage with 1497.

Debutant, Pontus Andersson of Sweden took second spot with 1464 while Aseel Alroomi of Kuwait finished third with 1421 followed by two more Kuwaitis, Mohannad Ebrahim and Jassem Alsqaer completing the top five.

In the Step 2 Final, Chan was the best Hong Kong finisher in fifth with 1369 and Chow in sixth with 1356. Kam, who had a poor start, jumped from 20th position thanks to a stunning game of 277 in the fifth.

Kam made the cut for the next stage in 12th position with 1308. 2014 ABF Tour Saudi champion, Abdullah Aldolijan of Saudi Arabia won the Step 2 final with 1458. Top overseas qualifier, Yousef Aljaber of Qatar took second spot with 1418.

2013 champion, Ayman Hashem of Egypt finished third with 1411. The fight for the last two spots was amongst Tom Sorce of USA, Christopher Sloan of Ireland and Frederik Ohrgaard of Denmark.

The American hung onto 14th position with 1280, Ohrgaard ended stronly with 214 to snatch 15th position with 1271 while Sloan struggled with 164 to miss the cut by 16 pins. The 16th position reserved for Egyptian went to Hossam Sobhy with 1234.

The top 16 will be divided into two groups - Group 1 comprising of bowlers ranked 1,3,5,7,9,11,13 and 15 and Group 2 comprising of bowlers ranked 2,4,6,8,10,12,14 and 16. The two groups will bowl seven round-robin matches and a position round to determine the top two from each group advancing to the Step 4 Final.

Hong Kong trio seals final spots

28th April, Cairo: Hong Kong trio of Rickle Kam, Mike Chan and Joshua Chow sealed their places in the Step 1 finals of the 17th Sinai International Open Bowling Tournament with Wicky Yeung just 11 pins off the cut.

Kam, who was fifth in the mixed pool last night, notched up two superb three-games series of 726 and 723 taking his nine-game tally to 2166 to head the mixed pool. Chan made the biggest move from 36th position in the reserves pool to fifth with 2103.

Chow also improved from 22nd position in the mixed pool to 16th position with 2059 to confirmed his place in Step 1 finals together with his compatriots.

Yeung, who was struggling the past two days with a best series of 624, made three attempts and was so close to making the cut. Yueng registered 686, 672 and 660 for a nine-game aggregate of 2018 to finish 37th position, just 21 pins off the cut at 26th position.

He will make his final attempt later tonight. Meanwhile, Yousef Al Jaber of Qatar, who rolled the tournament's first perfect game in Squad 15, took over the lead of the overseas pool with 2233.

2014 World Championships Trios gold medalist and overnight leader, Frederik Ohrgaard of Denmark and Naif Oqab of UAE slipped to second and third with 2229 and 2223 respectively.

There were no changes in the local pool with Hossam Sobhy, 2013 champion Ayman Hashem and Amr Essam occupying the top three spots with 2122, 2113 and 2090 respectively.

Kam headed the mixed pool followed by Pontus Andersson of Sweden in second with 2130. Two Kuwaitis, Basel Alanzi and Mohannad Ebrahim finished third and fourth and Chan rounding out the top five.

The cut at 26th position which was 2020 has been raised to 2039 after Squad 51 with two more squads remaining. A one-game desperado squad will be held to add four qualifiers for Step 1 finals which will be contested tomorrow morning.

Two Hong Kong nationals make finals

27th April, Cairo: Rickle Kam of Hong Kong led team-mate Joshua Chow into the Step 1 finals of the 17th Sinai International Open Bowling Tournament in fifth and 21st position in the Men's Open Mixed Pool qualifying table.

Kam posted three 3-games series of 717, 710 and 658 for a nine-game aggregate of 2085 for fifth position. Chow started well with 732 in his first series but managed 647 and 637 in his next two attempts to finish in 21st position with 2016.

Two other Hong Kong national bowlers, Mike Chan downed 676, 671 and 656 for a nine-game tally of 2003 and has yet to make the cut in 35th position. Further attempts to better any one of the series will put him into the finals.

Wicky Yeung struggled to put in good scores and was way down in the standings with 1739. With one day left for qualifying, Yeung needs to find his way through. Current cut at 26th position went to Ali Saleh of Kuwait with 2005.

Meanwhile, 2014 World Championships Trios gold medalist and debutant, Frederik Ohrgaard of Denmark topped the overseas pool with 2229. Naif Oqab of UAE and Yousef Al Jaber of Qatar finished second and third with 2223 and 2116 respectively.

Hossam Sobhy topped the local pool with 2122 follwed by 2013 champion, Ayman Hashem in second with 2113 and Amr Essam third with 2090. The top three overseas and top three local qualifiers will earn a bye to automatically qualify for Step 2 finals.

Qualifiers positioned 1 to 26 in the Mixed pool plus two Egyptians and four from desperado squad will contest the six-games Step 1 finals. The top 18 plus the six seeded qualifiers will contest Step 2 finals for another six games.

The top 15 plus top local will advance to Step 3 finals divided into two groups to play eighth games round-robin matchplay. The top-seed from Group 1 will meet the second-seed from Group 2 while the top-seed from Group 2 will meet the second-seed from Group 1 for a two-games total pin falls Step 4 finals.


Joshua Chow finishing 21st position

The losers will square off for the third and fourth placings while the winner of Step 4 finals will meet in the Step 5 title match, again over a two-game total pin falls. The champion will pocket the top prize of US$7,500 with the first runner-up settling for US$3,500. The second and third runner-up will earn US$2,500 and US$2,000 respectively.
