Second runner-up spot for Hong Kong

13th October, Shanghai: Chan Shuk Han of Hong Kong gave a good account for herself after she finished as second runner-up in the Women's division of the inaugural 2016 ABF Tour China leg at Hao's Bowling Centre on Thursday.

Chan advanced to the semi-final after the 44-year-old national bowler defeated two Chinese nationals in Round 1 and 2. Chan posted the highest game in the women's division when she trashed ex-national bowler, Wu Bing 289-190 in her opening round.

She also eliminated another national bowler, Kong Min, 233-196 in the second round before losing to eventual champion, Yang Liyan of China, 178-190 in the women's first semi-final match. Yang captured her first-ever tour title beating Indonesia's Putty Armein, 212-184 in the final to take the top prize of US$1,000.

Armein, who defeated team-mate, Novie Phang in the all-Indonesia second semi-final match, 177-149, settled for US$500 while Chan and Phang earned US$250 each as second runner-ups. Hong Kong's other women finalist, Milki Ng made an early exit when she lost to Armein, 179-220 in the first round.

Meanwhile in the men's division, all three Hong Kong finalists failed to get pass the first round. China Open 2016 second runner-up, Michael Mak of Hong Kong lost to Singapore's Remy Ong, 244-255 in the opening round. Eric Tseng was defeated by Chinese Taipei's Cheng Hsing-Chao, 207-224.

Lau Kwun Ho was eliminated by newly-crowned China Open 2016 champion, Sam Cooley of Australia with the highest game of the division with a 278-180 victory in Round 1.

Cooley reached the semi-final after dispatching QubicaAMF World Cup male representative, Wang Hongbo, 246-212 before losing to Shi Guangming of China, 224-235 in the first semi-final match. Shi lost to compatriot, Mi Zhongli, 212-221 in the final to settle for first runner-up.

The 55-year-old China Open Senior Masters champion took out Ong, 225-258 in the second semi-final before going on to capture his first-ever tour title to give host, China a grand double. Mi picked up the top prize of US$1,000 while Shi earned US$500 as first runner-up. Ong and Cooley took home US$500 each as second runner-ups.

The top 16 Asian men ans top 16 Asian women from the final standings of the China International Open 2016 earned the right to compete in the fifth leg of the 2016 ABF Tour in a single knockout match format over the new World Bowling ten-frame scoring system.

The China leg with the official partner, Alisports was broadcast live by Youku TV station and telecast to major TV stations in Asia. The next leg in Jakarta, Indonesia on October 24 will be the final leg of this year's tour.

The top 16 men and top 16 women based on the ranking points earned from all the stops, will qualify for the ABF Tournament of Champions, provisionally scheduled in March in 2017.
