Hong Kong national bags Masters gold

12th January, Taichung: Alex Yu Ho Yin of Hong Kong, China bagged the Men's Masters gold medal of the 35th Asian Intercity Bowling Championships while Danny Lee of Happy Valley took home the bronze medal on Friday evening.

Yu easily beat eighth-seed, Lee Tak Man of Macau, China 225-180 in the first match but lost the second match to Lee 228-267. Both medal contender had to gothrough a one-ball roll-off to break the tie and Yu came up on top with a strike to Lee's 9-pin.

The champion had earlier ousted sixth-seed and fellow-countrymen, Danny Lee of Happy Valley, 2-0 (218-209, 228-220) in the semi-finals to advance to the gold medal round. Lee, who settled for the silver medal, also ousted second-seed, Muhammad Azizi Naim Jabar of Shah Alam, 2-0 (246-202, 238-201) to face Yu in the final.

Yu defeated another Macau national, Tam Wai Chong in a one-ball roll-off 10-9 after both had tied with one win each. Yu had an easier passage in the Round of 16 with a 2-0 victory over Aldric Andred Bathan of Paranaque to advance into the Round of 8.

Yu made the Masters finals by winning the All-Events bronze medal with a 11-game total of 2430. Jayden See of Jurong, Singapore took the gold with 2494 and Muhammad Azizi went home with the silver medal with 2468. Hong Kong finished sixth in the Men's medal tally. Jurong emerged the Men's division champion with 14 points on a medla haul of 2-0-2.

Shah Alam, Malaysia emerged as overall champion with a total of 41 points on a medal haul of 4-5-3. Host Taichung finished second with 36 points (4-2-5) while Jeju, Korea was third with 33 points (1-6-5). Shah Alam will host the 36th edition of the Asian Intercity in Shah Alam, Malaysia from 24 to 31 October, 2024. The championships attracted a total of 64 men, 36 women, 44 senior men and 28 senior women from 15 cities and 3 guest cities.
