Good progress by Hong Kong, China nationals

2nd May April, Petaling Jaya: Keith Mark and Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong, China national bowling team made good progress at the 42nd Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships 2024 by taking up sixth and 11th positions in the Men's Open qualifying overseas pool on Thursday.

Mark took to the lanes for his first squad at 9.00 pm last night by chalking up a 3-game series of 800. He then followed it up with a subsequent squad at 10.30 pm with 633 to give himself a 6-game aggregate of 1433, good enough to occupy sixth in the table.

Wu Siu Hong also made two attempts for a 729 and 678 series for a total of 1407. His effort is good enough for 11th position. Jordan Dinham of Australia, who rolled the tournament's fifth perfect game, took over the lead of the Men's Open overseas pool with 1463.

His compatriot and overnight leader, Blake Walsh finished second with 1458 while two-time Australian national champion and 9 Regional PBA title winner, Sam Cooley took up third with 1453. Hardy Rachmadian of Sumatra Utara, Indonesia held fourth position with 1445.


First Hong Kong, China national to qualify, Keith Mark

In the local front, the lead had changed several times. Chong Jun Foo of ABAS/Hera, Sarawak took over the lead from 2022 Malaysian Open champion, Ahmad Muaz with 1510, the first qualifier to surpass the 1,500-mark. Muaz, who was the overnight leader, settled for second with 1488.

Two Malaysian national podium squad members, Nevern Netaneel and Azriq Izamuddin completed the top 4 with 1467 and 1466 respectively. The top overseas and top 4 local qualifiers will earn a bye and automatically skip Round 1 finals.

2023 Macau-China Open champion, James Lui has only managed 15th in the mixed pool with 1377 while Daniel Tse, Ivan Tse, Michael Mak and Lau Kwun Ho have made their mark in the table. Local qualifiers positioned 5 to 12, overseas qualifiers positioned 5 to 12, qualifiers positioned 1 to 13 in the mixed pool, the top 3 from the Desperado squad along with the defending champion will contest the Round 1 finals on May 4. Tomorrow will be the last day of qualifying rounds.
